Vidwans family originally hails from Aanjarle, a
small coastal village in the Konkan part of Ratnaagiri district of
Maharashtra, India.
Ancestral last name (surname) of the family is Thatte and Vidwans -meaning
'Learned'- seems to be a title conferred upon the clan some 200~300 years
ago.
Records show that about four generations ago some of the ancestors left the
native to try out the luck in the neighboring and more prosperous state of Gujarat. Some of them returned to their native Aanjarle
towards the end of their active life, but some opted to make Gujarat their second native. Gajaananrao Vidwans was
one such individual and him and his sons lived their entire life in Gujarat. Gajaananrao worked as a very successful
surveyor for the princely state of Vallabhipur, and passed away in 1944 at an
age of 72.
Gajananrao had three sons., Govindrao ,
Gopalrao and Bhaskarrao.
Govindrao also lived the life of a surveyor working for Limadi, another
princely state in Gujarat. Gopalrao and
Bhaskarrao pursued their interests in literature and education with
distinguished accomplishments.
